I’m re-sharing this shot from the Friendsgiving I hosted last year (back when I had enough friends to host a Friendsgiving 🙈) to talk about how damaging big holiday meals like this can be for those suffering with body dysmorphia and/or eating disorders. Especially when you are being forced to be around family that makes you uncomfortable or tend to say triggering things.

Below are a few tips to help you & your family get through the big day tomorrow.
1. Focus on the person, not the body. (Aka “I’m so happy to see you! So glad you could make it!” Not “Have you lost/gained weight?” “You look great”) If you’re going to compliment someone, make it about something specific and not body-related.

2. Focus on the people, not the food. (No diet or “cheat day” talk)

3. Forget the food police. 🚫
(No judgement on how much anyone is eating, the portion sizes, getting seconds or thirds, etc)

I hope this can help some of you like it has helped me! Even if you can’t get some of your family to follow these “rules”, just having it in your head can help brush off the unwanted comments. Hello here I am! One more day of work before the holiday weekend. How are we feeling? Any pre-holiday meal jitters? I’m definitely feeling a little all over the place mentally & emotionally, but still sturdy on my feet.
